Buying a house

Hi,

How long did you have to live and work in Australia before being able to buy a house? We have a good credit rating, but obviously no credit history in Australia, is it very hard to get a mortgage?

We would love to move ASAP to our own house, mainly because we have 3 young children and it would be best if they could get settled soon after arrival.
And I would love to pick up our stuff from the boat and take it to our house rather than a temporary place...

Hi Busyte,

It can depend on your visa and your regular income. We actually bought a house before moving to Australia (we already had PR visa) because being self employed we were advised that we wouldn't be able to buy for several years because we couldn't prove our income. This was because we are self employed and needed Aussie tax returns to prove our income.

If you (or your partner) have a regular job and will be able to make the mortgage payments then there shouldn't be a problem.

I would contact a mortgage broker since they tend to have access to more mortgages than the high street banks.

We had our stuff moved into our own home too and it was wonderful
