First of all hello everybody and happy new year.
I have been thinking about a move abroad for some time now.Australia would be my first choice then Canada. Anything beats the weather her in Scotland!!! I have a problem regarding my job... Im a Test Technician for an electronics company. I really want to change jobs and learn a trade such as plumbing. What would i be best to do? go through the immagration process then try and change job? If i were to take up plumbing here i know you must have done it for 3 years before its classed as your job with the immagration people. Back to my current job.. I have a NC/HNC/HND in electronics and over 10 years experience. I would not fancy doing this job indoors aircon or no aircon. Im 31 years and dont have anything going against like criminal record, etc. Im also single and would be taking the plunge alone. Advantages and disadvantages of the above mentioned. I have a friend who (still in UK) is supposed to go out and join his family Adelaide. I fancy Melbourne or Perth. So the problem is with me wanting a job change. Any advice would be great. Thanking you in advance Paul. |

Hi Paul,
Welcome to the forum. Have you looked at the different types of visa available? There is a link in the "Please read.." post that goes to the government visa website. That post alos has links for jobs, weather etc. Certainly if you are looking at the skilled visas then you do not want to change job before applying and being approved for a visa. They do look at how long you've been doing that skill and will want client or employer references. If you can get a skilled independent visa then once you get to Australia you can do what you want but you need to check the terms of the visa since it was years ago when we applied. If you want to go to Perth or Melbourne then I don't think that a regional visa will work since I don't think that those areas are covered. Hope that helps, Karen

How quick do you want to go! one option is to try an agency some agency's specialises in finding employees for Australian companies and get sponsored that way, i know some people just go on a holiday visa and chance finding a sponsor that way hard yes but some times you can get lucky. as far as i know you can get a visa that allows you to study in Australia but you are limited to the hours you can work and you have to get permission i don't know the full in and out but they should be in the Australian government website details. I wonder can you find a company that would take you on as an apprentice and sponsor you for the trade might be another idea. i m sure if you can do that some one will know as im not a 100% on it. good luck with it all and let us know what you decided |
