Default Schools in Oz

Hi

Can anyone give me some information of the schools in Australia. Do most children go to state or private schools? What sort of price are we looking at for a year at a private school? I have three children of school age, so need to take this into consideration and budget into finances before making a decision as to whether or not we are doing right thing in moving to Australia.

Any help with this is appreciated.

Hi Debb2302,

Most children around here go to state schools as far as I'm aware (I don't have children myself but friends do).

I found the government education website Related websites
and they have a link to
The Australian Schools Directory – The only online guide to all Australian Schools

Hope that helps,
Karen

Hi Deb2302

I just joined this site today but I can answer your question if you are still wondering. I have two children and I am sending them to a private catholic school (primary age). Australia does have a good public school system, but I would always suggest you go private because of smaller class numbers and more often better facilities and better behaved children. Per term (4 in each year) I pay approximately $450.00, which is not really very much. You can get a lot more expensive private schools. I would say a good private high school you would be paying about $5,000.00 per annum plus uniforms etc. I am in Brisbane, Queensland by the way and it does differ in each state. Queensland is probably one of the cheapest for private high schools. Hope this helps a little.

Have a good day.

I can only speak for NSW. The education system is very good. If you live in a good area you will find good public schools which have children as well behaved, if not better behaved, as those in private schools.
