Hi David,

Is the cost of living higher than what? The rest of Tassie, Australia or where?

I don't hear of that many people moving to Tassie period, never mind Hobart. I was there on holiday some years ago and I think Tassie is beautiful, but being in the South it is quite a bit colder than the mainland. It's very peaceful, Hobart is small for a State city and it seems to me this is how the UK would have been in the 50's (although I wasn't around then ).

Regards,
Karen

Hi David,

I would have thought it would be cheaper but it's worth checking out some property websites to make sure since I think there was some building work happening in Hobart along the waterfront.

Of course it could be more expensive if everything has to be shipped or flown in come to think of it....

So basically I wasn't helpful at all - sorry!

Regards,
Karen

Hi the cost of living in hobart is very similar to mainland australia in fact some things will be cheaper, housing is a little cheaper the main reason you dont hear of people coming here is 1 they probably dont realise it is part of australia 2 most migrants tend to gather in areas where there a more people of the same background thus they all end up in melbourne sydney brisbane perth etc as these places are much larger than hobart.. but i can tell you or anyone else reading this that hobart is a much more relaxed place than the larger cities..there are no long travelling times to get to work and its no where near as cold as some parts of the usa or canada or england,,it can be 20degrees c and all we need to do is drive 30 minutes or so and be in the snow
