PS our school uniform has the school logo on it and can only be bought from the school (total for both boys for the year was around $400 but that was for everything, sports kit included). Books were extra at approx $900 for the 2 of them).
Thank you to you both...

Yes very exciting ...

Hi Dolly,

I recently checked some of the suburbs in Mornington Peninsula online and found them to be really nice with spacious properties and excellent rural type life style. I love all that!
Do you think it would be a doable commute to the CBD on daily basis on train? I would be working in the CBD and wondering if I could live in Mornington and work in the city. How long is commute? any pros and cons of this strategy?
Thanks and best Regards!

Syed

Electricity $360 (per quarter)
Water $45 (per quarter)

Health Insurance $250

Hi Syed,

When I was last there (a few years ago now) the trains only went as far as Frankston but Dolly can let you know if this has changed.

The train info can be found at Viclink - Your guide to public transport in Melbourne and Victoria
and Metlink - Your guide to public transport in Melbourne and Victoria.

Regards,
Karen

Hi Syed,

The train ends at Frankston. You can then get another train from Frankston to Stony Point (which is right down the Peninsula) but that goes inland through Somerville etc so wouldn't be any good for commuting.

If you were to live in Mornington then during normal hours (taking into account all the infernal traffic lights you go through) it's about a 10-15 minute drive, probably would take a bit longer during rush hour. Parking at Frankston station can be a bit of a nightmare and we were told that if you don't get parked by the 7.15am train you won't find a parking space (that's in the station car park). There are multi-storey car parks but would probably charge like a wounded bull for a days parking. At the moment I'm taking my husband into the station every day so he's not had the delights of parking. Within the next month we'll be getting a second car so he will be driving to the station. He did say that he would probably go to the next station up to park as there seems to be spaces there.

Mornington was our first choice to live, we love it there but we moved to Frankston South because of the boys school. When they've finished High School we'll probably move down that way.

If you've got any more questions, just ask.

Dolly

Hello,

This site is great with lots of useful information. Thanks to all the contributors.

Syed,

I'm also planning to move from US to Melbourne. Can we get connected to share information? I already got my PR and made my validation trip last year.

With just the 4 days I stayed in Melbourne, I like it.
I'm contemplating on the right time to move with my family with 2 kids and still undecided on which suburb to pick. I prefer the south eastern side.

Can someone give their views about Parkdale, Ormond, Hampton, Oakleigh?

Thanks.

Thank you Karen and Dolly, for all the information that you posted lately on my question.
Techman - Nice to know that you are also planning a move to Melbourne. I am not sure about your location in the States but I am from New York and looking to move to Melbourne on visa 457 with my small family (wife and 2 years). I agree that south-east is the place to be in Melbourne. I have never been to Australia before though but feeling excited about this move. I hope everything works out for you and you family too!
This forum is surely a great place to exchange information and I want to thank all the moderators and members to make it so much relevant and useful.

Best Regards,

Syed

Unfortunately because of spammers the rules regarding PM have changed and you won't have access to PM (either to send out or receive) until you have posted 5 times. This is to ensure that any new member is genuine.

Karen
