Yes, that's correct. There is an excellent school not far from us. Their fees are around $5K per term, with 2 boys that's $30K per year....then you've got incidentals on top of that..books, uniforms, school trips etc etc etc (remember these are private school fees).

It all depends on the State and the school. As I said before, our fees are around $900 for our two boys. Mount Eliza Secondary College (the next town to us) has 'parent contributions' at $490 per child. It could be a little more for other schools.

When our children were attending state school in Victoria, it cost us about $400 for each child for the year (included books, but not uniforms)....all up it was about $1000 a year total
(we actually had 4 terms )- Jan- April (or Easter), April - end June, July - Sept, Oct-Dec.

That's not too bad then.... my girls are stressed out about the move.... told them we will scout around until they find what they are looking for ...

For public school fees...they are technically voluntary.
At our old school, you could even pay the fees, spread out over each term, there is also a discount for those who hold a health care card (sometimes held by single parents etc).

I know a friend of mine, who had 4 kids at our local PS, and only paid fees for 1, as she couldnt afford to pay them.
Most school uniforms, are relatively inexpensive (with some school dresses/shorts being available from Target, K-Mart etc)
Some schools also have a 2nd hand uniform shop.

High School fees are still inexpensive for the year.(Public School)...and there are some great public schools around !!

Have you looked at Real Estate, Property, Land and Homes for Sale, lease and rent - realestate.com.au

Click on Qld, then find towns you are interested in. This will give you an idea of prices for buying/renting.

Also go to

This will show schools around QLD, and you may find the area you are going to may have 1 or more schools to choose from.

You an also google the name of the schools to see if they have a web page (most do these days)

Oops, yep you're right...it's 4 terms a year....makes it even more expensive!!!

PS our school uniform has the school logo on it and can only be bought from the school (total for both boys for the year was around $400 but that was for everything, sports kit included). Books were extra at approx $900 for the 2 of them).
