HI Christel

welcome to the forum. I suggest yo u start a new thread. alternatively search the forum for the same as it might have been discussed in teh past.

Also have a look at the real estate sites, the link is in the sticky threads. you dont need to give exact figures. We also got state sponsorship a week back from ACT. We wrote about the areas, about canberra, surroundings, culture etc in the essay as for the figures we did not mention much as you cant really have the exact cost of things over the net, everyone has a different lifestyle. There are links to several supermarts/online stores in teh sticky threads, that too will give you a basic cost of things.

Hope this helps

cheers

Thanks Karen for a great shopping list.
Love it that you have all the items broken down like that.
Great for getting the picture on grocery bills.

The costs of most of the above will vary depending on your specific circumstances.

Internet Cost: we pay $60 pm for 12Gb at 1.5Mb speed, but we could get the same at ADSL2+ with 24mb speed for about $40 pm, if it was available in our area.

Our Electric bills are about $500 per quarter, but we are all electric so have no gas bills.

Food can vary depending on what shops you use.
Bread $1.10 to $4 per loaf
Rump Steak $6 kg to $25 kg
Milk $1.79 for 2 litres to $4 for 2 litres

By estimating these expenses, I should have to earn $1,500 a month to pay all these bills.. How about the transportation and taxes?

Tax:
The average wage earner in Australia pays about 23.7% : Deductions as a percentage of gross wage.
That is based on the average Australian Male Full time earnings.

A person on 4.4 times average Australian Male Full time earnings, will pay about 39.5% : Deductions as a percentage of gross wage

Transport:
That will depend 100% on how far you travel, how you travel, car, train or bus etc.

Hi Patricia,

Have you read the post from the beginning since most of those areas are covered?

Entertainment - you would need to be specific since that is too broad an area
Clothing - again it depends on where you shop.
Taxes - can be found through the Australian Tax Office website - I think that's in the 'PLEASE READ.....' post.

Regards,
Karen

Thank very much for the information and for entertaining my questions, I really appreciated it.

It is now clear for me the cost of living in Australia.

Thanks,
Patricia
