ar.malik - we are paying off our home but rent in the area for a similar home is around $500/wk ($2000/month). Our home is electric so no natural gas expenses however, the state government is providing a rebate for homes that convert to natural gas and I believe to run gas is only about $50/month.

Some supermarkets offer you 4c off a litre if you spend a certain amount. If you are using this you must make sure that you go the petrol station that honours that offer since certain stations are with certain supermarkets.

I have a 2 litre car and it costs about $58 to fill it up with unleaded.

The last time I checked it was about $1.39 locally for unleaded with diesel being more expensive at about $1.53 a litre. (Locally meaning Mount Gambier in South East South Australia).

We don't use the car as much here so it's not so much of an issue for us.

Karen

Karen you really are a big help...Thank you

Default Schooling costs - Adelaide

Hi everyone,
This thread has really been informative, thanks so much to all who have taken the time to contribute.
We are coming from South Africa - many reasons obviously firstly the crime then the future for our two sons....
We will be going to Adelaide probably in the next 4-6 months - does anyone know about the schooling?
My eldest son will be turning 4 in September, does this mean that for him to go to a goverment school he will only be able to go in January or would he be able to join school sooner? He currently goes to a pre-schooll 5 mornings a week and just loves it.
My baby is 6 months but if I have to go and work when he is 1 year old, does anyone know the day care costs?

Hey gonclaves!

I found this link somewhere on this site (forgot where, but thanks to the original poster!) but because I am a new member I cannot post the link:

Anyway if you google "raising children network Australia" you should find what you're looking for.

Hope it helps you...
