Default 'Australised' Your Degree For More Employability

Gd day to all ! It has been quite a while since I last posted and visited this website. I'm in the final stage of my migration process and waiting for state nomination reply. After accessment from ACS, my skill is listed under SOL and eligible for visa 176. I'm in my early 40s and with US postgraduate BSc Computer Science, my experience in ICT counts more than my degree.

I'm the senior ERP Dynamics AX Consultant from Malaysia. My concern is I was adviced by a good friend of mine who is in Brisbane to 'convert' my degree to Australia degree by associating with well-known IT organisation. I guess what he meant 'convert' was to get yourself accessed/accredited by relevant body of your qualification. One of the reason is better employability because OZ really take pride of thier own degree. I intend to sit for several cecrtifications with Microsoft in ERP consultancy before I embark on my journey to Australia.

I need someone advice on this if the certification from Microsoft is adequate to land me a job or having another OZ's degree. I won't opt for the later as mentally I'm not prepare for it and I don't want to do it again.

TQ.

Hi:

To be honest I don't think you should spend any extra time on certs or degrees. At this point of your career your projects and work experience is what the AU companies will look at. The US degree and certs that you already have will fulfill any 'paper' requirements.

Write a detail CV and expound on your experience, specific problems solved. Also practice a bit on your interview answers (they're usually, tell me about a problem you've solved or a conflict you've resolved).

Good luck

Thanks amaslam. Yeh that what I was initially thought until my friend buzzed me with the proposal of 'conversion' of my existing degree. Your reply gave me a great relief as at this age to really pickup the pieces and back to school again is a big challenge emotionally and physically with family to care for.

Neverthereless I will still go for some certs which add-on to the work experience I already had. ICT careers is reapidly change overtime and degree is just a 'paper' to gain entry into job market. Your relevant hands-on and job experience counts more than your degree at later stage.

Appreciate if someone from VIC/NSW/QLD could enlight me of the prospect of being employed for ICT skill I have - Dynamics AX Consultant/Software Architect/Developer. I managed to visit job website such as CareerOne.com.au and found there are plenty of job listing of this category.
