Default Hello Canberra bound ( Hopefully )

I would like to say a quick hello to everyone. I was looking for some detailed information on Canberra when I came across this forum by accident, this however has made my day ! My wife and I and our young son Daniel are hoping to make the move to Canberra sometime in the future. We have engaged the services of a migration agent, and I have recently passed my ACS test / application. The current state of play is that the ACT have informed us that they will consider my visa application under the 176 visa route. Things are looking quite positive at the moment and I am working on a 2 page commitment letter detailing why I will stay in the ACT for a minimum of two years along with how I have researched lifestyle, employment, attractions etc etc.

If anyone has any advise, hints or tips please feel free to share. I guess my biggest concern is securing employment if / when we get the green light to go.

kind regards

JJ

HI jj

we applied for ACT sponsorship sometime in April and are still waiting. Whatever u write, make sure it is in your own words. Google Canberra and start reading. Read in Wikipedia as well, the statistics are accurate in wikipedia.
u basically have to write about population, culture, job prospects, city, nature, surroundings and how all this benefits you as against other states.

If u need any help, feel free to ask. I have done a lot of research on it.

cheers
anj

Hi JJ1,

Me too prepared all docs ready to apply for ACT Sponsorship. Just waiting for August, so that ACT will declare new Skills list, to check any changes in my profession if any. You mentioned that "ACT have informed us that they will consider my visa application under the 176 visa route". This is a reply for your mail to ACT??? and regarding Research.... Anj has given you hints for the right way of preparation of the commitment statement. All the best...

Attn: Anj...

I saw that you applied for ACT Sponsorship during April 09 and waiting for the results. All d best for your effort. My profession (Accountant) is in the skills list and as you know, ACT is holding all the Sponsorship applications received after June 30, till declaration of new List during August. Am plng to apply this month end (Jul 30th) with the hope that they will not remove Accountants from the list. Presently for Accountants ACT needs IELTS Score of min 6 band in all and 6.5 for speaking. I got overall band of 7 (7 each in R,W,L and 6.5 for Sp). Hope they will not change the IELTS Score condition to 7. (overall 7 also ok). whats ur opinion... shall I apply now.. or wait till the new list comes... If I apply now... I will be placed in the queue... and sometimes... the date of effect of changes will be from August only and not from Jul...

hi Satish

I was aware that ACT has put a hold on taking applications, I dont think u can really apply right now since they are not taking any applications but anyways, why not write to them, they are very helpful and will guide you. Infact we mailed then our CV and asked if it is alright for us to apply and they said yes we should do it. u can do the same, try it, u never know.

wish u luck

Hello anj1976, I cannot thank you enough for this. It really is great to connect with others going through the same process. If you have any other thoughts / suggestions, please do not hesitate to contact me. I was actually thinking of taking a short trip to Canberra to experience first hand the feel / atmosphere etc etc. Thank you so much again.

JJ

Hello satish lkb,

This was a reply delivered to my migration agent after they had contacted ACT regarding my prospects of gaining a sponsorship. Basically, ACT advised that they would accept / consider an application from me. The detail provided by anj was first class. The very best of luck with your application, please keep me posted, and if I can help at all just shout.

cheers

JJ.
