Default Hello..I'm New and planning on 175

Hello everyone

I am sooooo glad that I've come across this forum as I am thinking of migrating to Aus (Ade specifically). I have been missing Adelaide for many many years (graduated for almost 10 years now).

As my plan in migrating to Aus is still at its preliminary stage, lotsa planning (and costing) needs to be drawn up before putting in the papers. As such, I sincerely hope someone can share their experience / knowledge or throw some lights to my concerns (more of my worries actually).

(1) I'm a Malaysian and a CPA Australia holder with more than 6 years experience in one of the Big 4 Consulting firms, doing Malaysian corporate tax consulting. I've heard that with CPA I can go for 175 but I'm not sure if I need to do the Skilled Migration Internship Program Accounting ("SMIPA") as stated in the CSL. If so, does anyone know what this is?

(2) If I do get to Ade, I wish to develop my expertise in Taxation as well. Does anyone know the gross salary range for an accountant? My experience is very much skewed towards Malaysian taxation but I have done Australian Taxation as my undergrad paper. Malaysian taxation is alot easier than Australian Taxation but the principles are very similar. I wish to find out the ballpark figure of gross salary so that I can do up my budget. I am also wondering if ATO is active in hiring (it will be an excellent place for me to start on Australian Taxation). I hope someone can share on some information on this.

(3) I'm a divorcee and planning to bring my child over with me. I've browsed thru DECS but couldnt find the tuition fee range for Year 1 and 2 in Governmental Schools. Any parents that can share their knowledge on this?

Oh I cant wait to gather all the information and start preparing the necessary papers. Just praying very hard that I am qualified to go for 175.

I hope there is someone here that can help me on the above info and thank you very much in advance.

Cheers.

Hiya and welcome to the forum. I joined this in Jan 2009 and since then have been able to get loads of info so hope it works for you too. My 2 kids 14 and 7 are emigrating with us. I've been emailing loads of schools in the QLD area and so far have been told by the QLD education dept that on our visa 457 we will not need to pay any student international enrolnment fees theres a voluntary contribution of approx $150 each to cover books and other school stuff etc but thats all. But in Melbourne they said we had to and it worked out approx $5 - $6000 per year each. The older the child gets the higher the fees and these were just state schools. Hope that helps

xx satty

Hi Satty,

Thank you so much for sharing your experience. Good idea to actually connect with the schools and get the info directly. I have already pulled out a few schools in Adelaide which I am interested in so will contact them.
xx snow

Hi Snowflake, best of luck and happy researching..... believe me the list seems endless. Hopefully Adelaide is the same as QLD where there are no school fees for migrants. It's a pity all the states aren't the same it'll be less confusing.

xx satty

Hi snowflakemelts,

1) You are working and have been employed for more than 12 months hence will not need to do the SIMPA program
2) Ballpack figure about $80-90K p.a. but you must make provisions that you may start abit lower as you get up-to-speed with Australian Tax
3) ATO will employ you when you become Australian Citizen (takes approx 4 yrs)
4) Govt school fees are usually very reasonable and you need not worry much about this.

Hope this helps

Kind regards,

migrateAU
