Default How soon before leaving do you open a bank account??

Hi All

I was wondering how soon we need to open an australian bank account before landing in australia. I know we need to have one open so that our funds can be transfered etc, but what i don't understand is that when i have checked out NAB etc, you need to pop into one of their branches to show your ID. We obviously can't do this until we arrive...so what do you do with all your money? sorry if this has been asked before but it has confused me....thankyou all...

If NAB has an international branch (and many AU banks do) you can get their form for the id check usually called a 100 point ID check. Then you take that form with your ID proofs (i.e. passports). They can certify your proofs and then you can send that in to get your account opened in AU.

Usually the 100 point check form has who is authorised to certify your proofs.

what I was told was, you open the account in your country, you can keep depositing in it but can not withdraw till you reach AU. ANZ supposedly is good.

this has been discussed a lot in past, have u tried searching the forum?
