Default Advice wanted please - newbie

Hi everyone,
I have just returned from a 4 week holiday in Brisbane and have now made up my mind this I would definately like to emmigrate to Austrailia.

I have recently qualified as an engineer, gaining my National Certficate in Electrical/Electronics engineering & an advanced modern apprenticeship in electrical maintenance engineering & NVQ 3 in Electrical /mechananical engineering - but also have 3yrs experience as I was on one day release at college.
Does anyone know if the qualifications I have will be regarded as enough to meet the criteria for engineer? or should I proceed to complete my Higher National Certificate (which is 2 yrs) here in the UK.

I would rather be able to get employment in Austrailia and hopefully continue to a higher/degree level there.
Does anyone know how I could go about trying to get sponsership?

Any advice would be gratefully received.

Hi Andy,

I've copied your post to the Australian forum because you'll probably get a bigger response there.

If you check the top of this forum there is a useful post - that contains a link to the visa website, which will give you the kind of visas available.

The visas look at things such as age and experience. It may be worth doing a free consultation with an emigration agent to check what your options are.
We have a friendly immigration agent called Emigration Agent Liana on the forum and you could drop her an email (check the members section). She may be able to give ideas about sponsorship too since most jobs advertised in Australia say you need to have the visa first.

The same thing happened to us but is was SE Australia where we went on holiday in 2002. We moved out here to South Australia in July 2007.

Good luck,
Karen

Hi Mumbokins and thanks for your reply.
I intend to go to the Expo 08 being held in Leeds in April. I wasn't sure if it would be of any benefit, but after your hubbys experience I will make sure I get my cv up to date and take copies with me.
Thanks a lot & looking forward to coming to Brisbane sooner or later.
Andy.
