Default chef looking for sponsorship

Hi, we applied for our 175 visa in January, and have now heard that they are not even going to look at it untill at least july 2010. we are devasted that it is going to take so long, so we are now looking to go down the sponsorship route.

My husband is an executive chef here in the uk. He has worked in all types of restaurants. from 3 michelin stars to brasseries and country house hotels, here in the uk, south africa, dubai and melbourne australia during the last 17 years.

Our problem is that every job that we see online states that you have to have your visa in situ already. Does anyone know where we can find jobs that are willing to sponsor.

Any advice or help will be fantastic

thanks so much

karen and alan

Hi Karen & Alan,

Where did you hear that your application won't be looked at until July 2010? It doesn't seem quite right to me - that's 16 months from when you submitted your application!!!

In the sticky "please read: helpful websites....." at the top of the forum page there's a link to a company who can try to sort out sponsorship.

Otherwise it's contacting restaurants over here and asking if they are willing to sponsor.

dolly, people have been talking in the forum about applications other than SL and sponsored ones wont be processed anytime before July 10. this is so annoying. I mean people have been misinterpreting and spreading it all around which is soooo annoying.

I guess that is where Karen read it as well.

Karen, In my opinion you should search for restaurants on google and apply , see if it works.. or if you have contacts in AU, see if anyone they know is looking for a chef.. That has worked for few people. You have to understand this that the positions on the net have thousands of applicants, if not thousands but yes hundreds maybe which makes your chances bleak.

you can also google consultants who specialise in chefs/hospitality.
I saw a very interesting site, chefs.com.au, see if they just cater to equipment or provide chefs to restaurants.

hope this helps

cheers

HI Karenalan
Im trying to get to oz on a sponsored visa Im using a visa agent because of all the paper work, we have been trying to get there since last august, and finding jobs is so hard, there are lots of them but getting some one to agree to sponsor you is another matter, I have found a sponsor but it took a lot of phone calls and lots of rejections, my visa application has been lodged and am just waiting for the result.
Some job web cites i used which were very good are;

Australian JobSearch - Australia's largest free online jobs board. Job Search, Employment Information and Career Advice at careerone.com.au. SEEK - Australia's no. 1 jobs, employment, career and recruitment site.

good luck Swordfish.

Default chefs for australia

Hi Karen,

I am not much into the hospitality business, but I heard about a company/webpage
who is actively seeking for chefs. As far as I know, it is in german, but maybe check it out yourself: check this link

Good Luck!

Smile

wow thanks so much everyone for all the feed. back, its the first time ive been on a forum and all the info is really helpfull and reassuring.

We too have an agent. we were orignaly told that we would be all done and dusted by now july 09 and then two days later this new way of dealing with visa came out. they are now doing all the sponsored applications and the ones one the critical lists first. they have 108 000 to do this year and then they will start to look at all the people in our group. its immigration that sent the email to say they would start dealing with ours in july 2010.

anyway we have to get on the case ourselves, im going to search though all the websites and get a list of good restaurants in melbourne and send alans cv off and go from there. we have two chef friends there who are also circulating his cv and he is hpoing to go over for a few weeks in september to attend any interviews.

thanks again everyone

karen
