Default weather in melbourne

I may be moving to melbourne, how hot and humid does it get through the summer period. I've read lots but would love to know the truth. I will be looking after my 2 year old son and 10 month old daughter. Thanks for all replies.

I've never noticed high humidity in MEL but it can get very hot in the summers (40+). This isn't usually weeks on end but more some days in the summer. It will hit 30+ regularly during the summers.

Depends on what year! We had a lovely summer to some extent, nice and hot. But then there was quite a lot of rain (though not enough to fill the reservoirs). I love the heat, but not humidity and there isn't much humidity here. And when there is, it is quickly followed by a storm. This year was a slight exception in Feb with the bushfires. Black saturday was stupidly hot and the week before it was so hot we couldn't sleep. However, the unit we were in didn't have very good air conditioning and the house was like an oven. Our new place has good cooling so shouldn't be a problem now. Melbourne is probably the best place to adjust to Ozzie weather. Just don't arrive in our summer, then you can aclimatise.

Last summer our external thermometer topped 49.1 so was a bit of a stinker! I've only had 2 summers here so far, the first hot the second really hot. It will be interesting to see what happens this year temperature wise. The good thing is that we don't really get the humidity and when it does get hot, it's only for a short time then temps will drop for a while before rising again, giving you some well needed respite.

All you have to do is remember to spray yourself against mozzies, slap on sunscreen and make sure you take water with you if you're out for the day.

Wait till the midges (sandflies) get you.
Then you know what an itch is.

Hi David

The summers are less humid but dry hot. We've had a few bushfires because it's been so HOT!! If you have little kiddies just make sure you have air conditioning! There's no such thing over here in the UK but in Australia it's a must!!

Rest assure after a period of hotness, the weather does change to something cooler. Melbourne is known for it's 4 seasons in a day. At times it's sunny and warm in the morning but by lunch you'll need a cardigan and the weather is grey!

I agree the mozzies and flies are bad!!!! I used to get eaten alive by the mozzies and chased everywhere by the flies!!

Regards,
Ness
