Talking New Here - Tell Me What You Love About Where You Live

Hi all,
I'm completely new to this board - and completely new to the moving process. My fiance and I were hoping to move to Australia in the next five years or so. We're just beginning to plan for what seems like a very daunting task.
Anyway, I was wondering if those of you who have already made the move could tell me what you love about where you live. I know I can read up on all the different areas and I will definitely visit them before we move, but there's nothing like hearing first hand what it is like to live there.
Please include any information on family activities and areas that are good for small children as we have an 11 month old and plan to have more children in the near future.
Thanks in advance (and I hope I'm posting this in the right place )
Charli

hi charli

welcome to the forum

My suggestion would be to see teh stick threads (towards the top of the forum), it has some very helpful info and various links to immigration site, accommodation etc.
You can try the search option check the older threads, or wait till someone else adds in

I am not there yet, waiting for my visa.

cheers and wish u luck

Hi Charli,

There are several post along these lines (and I've written several times about why I love Mount Gambier ).

However another way to look at this is what you want as a family.

I hate hot temperatures so the North in Oz would be too hot for me, but I also hate frosts and snow, so that rules out Tassie and some of the mountainous areas which can get very cold in winter.

Once you know where you are looking for then you'll have a better idea of location and that will cut down on the areas that you'll want to investigate.

Good luck with your search - we found it a lot of fun!

Regards,
Karen

We live on the Bayside and love the area, can go down to our local marina for a coffee and lovely restaurants. We are close to waters edge so just a few minutes and we can walk along the water front (always good when you have had a stressful day).
Great for families, ferries to many Islands, train station into CBD 5 minutes away, 45 minutes to Gold Coast, 90 minutes to Sunshine Coast and lots more I can go on and on.
We love it here and wouldnt want to move anywhere else check out www.redlandtourism.com.au you will see what I mean.
Good luck with your search

I love having the availability of beautiful beachy, coastal walks. Palm trees (that aren't scabby ) reasonably warm weather in 'winter' and lots of clean, well kept parks for children.

Don't ask me the don't likes - i'll be here all day

Hi Charli

I'm from Melbourne so I'm a bit biased and would say Melbourne. Here's a bit of a load down with the capital cities I have visited/lived in:

Melbourne - Cultural city lots of festivals such a Moomba (with rides), Melbourne show (with farm animals), museums and galleries. The shopping and food is good! Very cosmopolitan. The cost of living is more affordable than Sydney.

Sydney - Beaches are close by. People are a bit more go go go. The weather is more humid and sunnier than Melbourne. Cost of living is most expensive here.

Brisbane - Very relaxed and slower pace than Melbourne and Sydney. If you like hot, it's a good place to go. Gold coast is a few hours drive where you have Sea World and Movieland etc.

Adelaide - Smaller than all the other cities mentioned. Very quiet, if you like that. Beach and woods are close by.

I haven't been to Perth yet but they say it's very nice there. I have friends who have relocated there and they call Perth their home now.

Hope this helps.

Regards,
Ness
