...any day!

After deciding that I wanted to migrate to Australia about 8 weeks ago (I work for an international corporation which is active in well over 50 countries), I found out that the Australian division is looking for someone with my EXACT qualifications. Well, long story short, I accepted the job offer from them yesterday!

Now all I need is the paper copy of the contract, the moving package and my 457 visa and I'm ready to go - Perth, here I come! Woohoo

Oh, nice, someone who knows bavarian geography

Oberbayern - about 20 miles south of Ingolstadt; but right now, I live in the US.

Where in Germany are you located?

I am located in Oberpfalz, near Regensburg. It would be nice to have your experiences in Australia once you are there.

As I am also contemplating the move now, I would like to hear the experiences of someone from Germany settled in Australia.

Well, as promised, here is an update:

I arrived in Oz last Monday after a 30-hour trip from Minneapolis. I guess there is no better way to appreciate the size of the world than spending 30 hours travelling halfway around it

The massive jet lag of 12 hours was considerably more benign than I had anticipated (maybe it's because I flew west - I could always handle the westward jet lag far better than the eastward), and now I am ready to tackle all the "logistical" issues: apartment, car, drivers license, mobile phone, credit card, etc...fortunately, my company is a big help, as they arranged (and paid) for 4 weeks of temporary housing and rental car.

The only (slight) problem is that it will take until about the end of September for my personal stuff to arrive, which means I will have to live out of a suitcase for two months; but that is an inconvenience I am more than willing to accept in exchange for living in a country I wanted to see for years and years

Even though I was well aware that it is currently Winter in Australia, I didn't quite realize that, at least in Perth, that means it's also the season for heavy rain and storms. Oh well, at least I don't have to contend with snow, ice and temperatures of up to (or down to?) -40 Celsius
