Default why ACS clearance required?

Hi all,
I am new to this community.
I applied for 457 dependent visa with my wife who got 457 sponsership. I am software engineer with 3.5 year of experience. I came to know that many are applying for ACS. Is it mandatory to get job there in OZ? I searched hard on this forum but could not get clear picture. Kindly help

Hi Ashish:

As a dependent of your spouse you do not need to do an ACS assessment for the purpose of the 457 visa. If you and your spouse later apply for a PR visa then you will probably have to do an ACS assessment at that time.

Good luck

Thanks for your mail. Another query i have is do 457 dependent require sponsorship from another company to work for the company. My visa says i have unrestricted authority to work in any part of australia.

No, the dependent of a 457 (i.e. Spouse) can work in any occupation in AU and does not require any special sponsorship. However should you (the main applicant and sponsored person) lose your job then she would also have to leave when you leave. This is the main risk of a 457 (that you can lose your job and then have to leave AU).

so if I want to apply for PR, I'd still have to do it? Can I do the necessary paperwork, etc from AU? I dunno what this ACS thing is all about!
