Talking Visa Approved!!!

Hi all

Just got the phone call today saying our visa has been approved!!!! How excited are we???

It took just under 11 months in total (from making the decisionto emigrate to getting the visa).

Now the fun begins, applying for jobs, luckily have sold the house (if it goes through OK) and shipping our stuff.

Hoping to land In Melbourne mid - late September.

Does anyone know whether we can start to enrol our daughter in schools while we are still here? Will they consider us without an Ozzie address?

Sheila

CONGRATULATIONS

It is SUCH a relief when you finally get the letter to say you've got your visas!

Quite a lot of schools here have strict catchment areas so you have to live in the School Zone. We had to show our rental agreement to the school to confirm we lived in the zone.

What I'd suggest you do is research schools in the area you want to move to. Send them emails explaining that you will be moving over in September and ask them what their policy is if you haven't got a rental before your children are ready to be enrolled. If I remember correctly, our boys school wouldn't enrol them until we could prove we had a rental.

Also, look at rental properties within the school zone so when you come over you can go for inspections asap. The whole rental process is very quick. Have a look at the "A list of things to do when you arrive" sticky for tips on securing a rental.

One more tip, try to exchange your drivers licence as soon as you can, it comes in so handy when you first arrive for identification purposes.

Dolly

Congratulations,
Good to see that visa's are still getting passed
As Dolly said, we would advice you to arrive over in Australia first, then have a look around the schools, its always good to go on first hand experience rather than recommodations from other people and what you see over the internet.
Give yourselves time to arrive see which area you want to stay then look around the schools.
Good luck with your move
