But this is sposed to be Australia, everyone at work said wait til summer 40+ days you won't cope, well we had summer and I bearly noticed and this is coming from a cold Derbyshire, Food is not as good as the UK, I miss good quality takeaway food and M&S ready meals, speaking of M&S I ordered M&S clothes online very good service but expennsive for delivery so order a big parcel cos it costs the same for one or 20 items
Cost of living is less we have 3x as much disposable income, weather is more reliable Yes even in Melbourne, love living an hour from the beach/snow, employer is now sponsoring us to stay as PR so all in all good decision, just thought you all who know me would appreciate an update tc JABBA
Hi Jabba

I am a midwife and am currently waiting for my visa - i just wanted to know what the typical routine is whilst at work? do you use CTG ( been told the drs do this) and are you allowed to conduct your own deliveries etc. You say you have no autonomy - does that mean everything is passed by with the obs team, if so that is just mind boggling. In normal midwifery led care here its the other way around!! Just wanted to know, so that its not so much of a shock when i get there. Were heading for queensland. Any guidance greatly appreciated.

Thanks Lisa

Well I am in Victoria so I don't know how things are in Queensland but here everything goes thru the OBGYN they use almost all continuous monitering do loads of social inductions and arm 9/10 women, they don't practise research based midwifery like we did in the uk and today one of the consultants had a right rant about how if we don't like it we should go back to the UK. however baby steps we are introducing Midwife led care since I arrived I am hoping to be project managing it so fingers crossed things will improve for the women Good Luck Jacqui
