Default 2nd Class Welder - need 2 find sponsor fast!

Me and my BF came to the Gold Coast on a working holiday visa last June whilst our application for PR through Pathway D was in the process. This visa pathway was removed and never brought back whilst we were in Oz.

My BF has 11 years experience in welding but no formal qualifications. The company he is welding for here applied to sponsor us, but they now have to close in June and we had to withdraw our application before it was granted!!

We need to find a new sponsor before our visa runs out in June or else we have to sell everything and move back to the UK We can't apply for regional sponsored visa as the TRA won't assess him without any qualifications. Can't apply for another WHV either.

I've sent his resume to every company around Australia looking for welding with no response. Were willing to move anywhere in Oz just to stay. He's also rang every welding company in the phone book but the job front is shocking here.

Can anyone offer any advice or contacts for companies looking to sponsor welders in Oz?

So stressed!

Hi there,

Welcome to the forum.

If you have a look at the sticky "please read....." at the top of the forum page, there's a couple of links to companies who try to find sponsorship.

Also, do a search on the forum to see what other welders have done. If they've been sponsored it's worth sending them a message and asking if the company will sponsor your boyfriend too. It's a long shot, but you've got to try everything!

Is there any reason why you can't apply for a 2nd WHV?

Re your boyfriends qualifications, it might be wise to contact an agent to see if he would pass a skills assessment without any qualifications. My OH is in IT and has not formal qualifications at all but he passed a skills assessment. We have a few agents who post on here, SOMV posts fairly regularly. You can contact her (Veronika) via her signature. If you do contact an agent, always make sure they are MIA/MARA registered.

PS I remember a company, I think their name was something like Freespirit and they used to find sponsors/jobs for people. Not sure if they are still around, but do a search on Google and see what you come up with

Hi,

Thanks so much for your reply, i'll definately loo at the sticky threads, contact Veronika, welders on here and google Freespirit.

We can't apply for a 2nd WHV as we haven't worked in agriculture for 3 months and don't have time to now in order to qualify for one.

We have phoned TRA twice to see if they would skills assess us and they said my OH has to have some kind of formal qualification? they tell you different information all the time so it might be worth another shot asking again.

Fingers Crossed.

Thanks Again

My OH is in IT so his skills assessment was done by ACS. He hasn't got any formal qualifications and I was under the impression that the TRA skills assessment would be the same.

Perhaps someone can clarify?

Dolly
