Default Securing employer sponsorship

Hi,

I am new to the forum, this is my first post so i hope i get this right!

Me and my family are looking to emigrate to Australia and we are weighing up all our options but we know very little about securing employer sponsorship. Can anyone please advise us on possible routes to acheiving employer sponsorship? Should i contact employers directly or try recruitment consultants?

Does employer sponsorship normally occur when an emigrant knows employees at an Australian company?

Thanks in advance.

Regards

Mark

Hi Mark:

Here are the common scenarios for Employee sponsorship
1. Difficult to find skill locally or chronic shortages (i.e. Nurses / Doctors)
2. Internal company transfer (International) of a Multi-national
3. Living in a regional area (i.e. Country town) where some skills are only found in Capital cities.

It also depends on whether a company has done it before. Smaller companies do not necessarily have the HR experience to do these sort of sponsorships (quite a bit of paperwork involved).

Recruiters are possible if it's a hot skill or people are needed very quickly.

Under the current climate an internal transfer by working for a MNC is the most likely transfer opportunity. New hiring is much slower these days.

Hi Mark,

Welcome to the forum.

Getting a company to sponsor you can be very difficult. If you take a look at the "please read....." sticky at the top of the forum page there's a couple of links to agencies who try to get sponsorship for people. It will also depend on what area you work in as to how successful you will be. You can try contacting companies direct, but most will want to to have PR first as opposed to sponsoring you.

Have you thought of state/territory sponsorship or regional sponsorship? In that same sticky there's a link to DIAC that will give you details on all visas available.

Also, if you have a look at the sticky "Thinking of emigrating?" you'll be able to work out if you have enough points to apply for the sub-class 175 Skilled independent visa - if at all possible, this is the best visa to apply for as it gives you Permanent Residence straight away with no obligations.

So, have a good read and then come back if you have any more questions.

Dolly
