Default Internationals going international

Hey all,

My boyfriend (swedish) and myself (dutch) are thinking of relocating to Australia, Perth more specifically He wants to pick up school again (university) and I will be working hopefully to support us. For the last weeks i've been gathering so much info it's making my head spin. We have to get a student visa for him, a working visa that will allow me to work there for at least the time it takes for him to complete university (like four years), AND i wanna bring my cat.
I must say i was extremely surprised and delighted when i looked at rental prices in WA!! For the same price as our tiny 3 room appartment costs here in The Hague, I can get a whole house with 2 bathrooms and like 405 bedrooms!!
I was wondering if anyone had some tips on how to get started, and especially if someone can explain this sponsored working thing for me. How do you do that? What is it exactly?
Thanks so much!

Hi,

You should have a look at the immigration website for info on visas it is Department of Immigration and Citizenship We are going on an employer sponsored temporary visa. It basically means that you have a job to go to and the employer is going to sponsor you for your visa, it is much quicker than going for a permanent one. The employer has certain conditions that the employer must adhere to and these are detailed in the information booklets on the immigration website. You could also have a look at Jobs in New Zealand Jobs in Australia Jobs Working In on this site you can post your cv and employers can look and find people to fill their positions, I would guess that the employers using this site would be willing to sponsor people as they will know that the person will have to get a visa before they can give them the job.

Hope that has been of some use to you and good luck!

Hi there,

My partner sent an email to the company he is going to working for knowing that his job was in demand (he is a heavy goods vehicle motor technician) asking if they had any jobs. He had to email them his resume along with copies of his trade qualifications, once the manager had looked at them he phoned (at 12.40am, be prepared for the time difference!!) and that was it. They emailed him an offer of employment which he had to sign and send back and then we got an email from the immigration agent that the company uses asking for id documents, qualifications etc and they are doing the application for us. You should have a look at that workingin site and see if there are any jobs on there and I'm sure there are other employment sites that people have maybe given on other threads. The immigration site also gives information on the jobs that are on the in demand list as I think your job must be on here to be sponsored, the employer must also show that they have tried to fill any position from the Australian workforce before getting anyone from outside Oz. I think though that jobs in the health industry usually are in demand.
Good Luck

Hi,

thanks again claire for your answer. I guess that means that the job has to be on the MODL list, which unfortunately mine is not. it is on the SOL list, which it has to be on i think if you wanna work there. but i still have about 2 years to see if i can fix myself some sponsorship. thanks very much!
