Hi John,

It depends on the visa type.

Skilled Independent visa - no you don't need a job before you come here.

State sponsored visa - no you don't need a job.

Employer Sponsored visa - yes you find an employer that will sponsor you for a visa and gives you a job. You agree to work in that job for x number of years (usually 2). If for some reason you are let go (fired, made redundant etc.) you have 30 days to find another sponsor otherwise you have to leave since your visa becomes invalid.
