Default How Long

Just wondering of the time scale of receiving the visa from the first date of application, (providing everything goes smoothly).,
also how much does it all cost if doing it all oneself.

thanks

Hi,

We are going on a an employer sponsored visa (457), the immigration website says that most of these are completed within 8 weeks although this can obviously change depending on volumes. We are lucky enough that my partners employers have an agent that they use and everything is being done for us, they have told us that it should be 8-10 weeks. We aren't paying for it but the cost was only about $500. If you are looking at a skilled permanent visa I think it is more like a year and $5000. I could be wrong on that and I'm sure someone will post the correct information if I am. You could also look at Department of Immigration and Citizenship there are information booklets on the various visa and you can follow the links to find out the costs and timescales involved.

I agree with the other two posts i have been following another expact site and on it at the moment a skilled independent visa if using the online application is taking about 4 months this is were you front load every thing ie the medicals and police clearance forms they nearly ask for them as soon as they receive the application and money.
A sponsored visa is much quicker from 4 weeks to 8 weeks may be 10 weeks all depends how straight forward it is and if the employer has ever sponsored before.

cost wise for a skilled independent visa it is $300 for skill assessment then the visa cost is $2060 then you would have to add in what ever price the doc would charge for medicals and xrays.

here is the link to the website Professionals and other Skilled Migrants Visa Charges - Outside Australia

on there you will see 1st installment and 2nd installment the 2nd installment is for if you a brining any family members over 18 with you as far as i know some one else might know for sure about that.

hope that helps Niamh

Hi Chatty123

You can also check out www_austimeline_com (replace _ with .) since some people update that website with how long visas have taken them and it gives a fairly accurate idea of how long the steps have taken.

Regards,
Karen
