Default Road Trip to Sydney

Well we're finally back home in sunny Victoria It took us about 11 hours to drive there, exhausting, but great to see the lovely countryside. We drove through Yarra Glen and past Kinglake National Park and oh my goodness, so many blackened trees Though I was suprised to see so many trees with blackened trunks and really green or orange leaves. The autumn leaves does look gorgeous though!

As for Sydney, despite the exam (which went okay except for the announcement about changing back to mains electricity! UK in the 70s?) it seemed a nice city. We hardly had any time there, however I have to say, I much prefer Melbourne. Melbourne seems to have a better vibe and is just nicer. I suppose everyone is different and there are some gorgeous places in Sydney, the opera house, the botanical gardens and the harbour are beautiful, but not a patch on Melbourne.

Anyway, I would highly recommend going for road trips around Oz, it's fab, though great to be home and put feet up

yeah, I can't wait until we hit the open roads to explore AU. Definitely will be doing the Melbourne - Sydney drive. Most likely doing the Mel - Adelaide one too. Was that the coastal route you took or the inland route? Which one is quicker?

Does anyone know anything about the old overland telegraph line, do people drive from Adelaide - Darwin? is there anything to see there?

We drove from Sydney to Melbourne some years ago and after the first few hours I found it boring.

I love driving along the coast but we went the inland route - long straight roads with not much to see except trees, trees and more trees. I should say that I get bored driving through countryside in the UK too - I'm just not a dirving through country side person (it was my husband's idea to do it). I couldn't have the cruise control on because I was worried that the boredom would really hit me then.

We did actually stop on the way so we made it a 2 day trip.

You have to really like scenery (that may look the same) to do the drive. Admittedly there hadn't been any bush fires (luckily) when we did the drive.

I much prefer the Melbourne to Adelaide route (especially if you do the Great Ocean Road) and I've done that trip several times. If you do the coastal road after Mount Gambier (you can either take the inland route or the coastal route visa Robe, Kingston etc.) be aware that there is a high sandbank so you don't see much of the coast but it's still a good journey.

We are talking about doing a drive from Adelaide to WA at some stage to drive through the Nullabor desert.

Regards,
Karen

We did the inland road which is the quickest route and to be fair the scenery can get repetitive. I was glad just to be out doing stuff, been stuck not working for far too long. However, I would have preferred to do the coastal route and there are a few sites with tourist suggestions which take a few days.

Will definately try the Melbourne Adelaide route at some time. We love the Great Ocean Road, but have never got past Apollo bay. I'd love to see the disciples.
