Default English Language - points

Just checking points criteria for 175 visa. i am a chartered accountant with 10+ years experience and am in the 30-34 age category. Went through the usual UK schooling system then got a BSc(Hons) in Maths at a UK University. Is it right that I have to take a test to obtain 25 points for English Language?

Generally, if English is your natural language, you do not need to take the IELTS test.

Some people do take the test because they need those extra points.

Have you gone through the Points Test to see if you need extra points?

there r two options to gain points, either take ielts or try to get sponsorship from a state.

since u r from UK, u r exempted from taking ielts.

From the Immi website it is apparent that I have to take the test if I want 25 points. Otherwise I can have 15 points and just hand over a certified copy of my passport. That is my understanding anyway. It seams a little ridiculous to me.....

If you need the points. Take the test. I had to. Its really not that difficult. Just buy the official IELTS prep book so you know what to expect. Good Luck!

It may seem a little ridiculous, but think of all the immigrants in the UK who hold British passports but cannot necessarily speak the language very well. A passport does not guarantee to AU immigration that you have good English skills.
