Default Money Transfer - from UK to AUS

Hi,

I'm hoping one of you wonderful people can help out here!

I am moving to QLD in June. I have around £6k in a current account at HBOS that I will need to take with me. What is the best way of taking a large amount of money? I intend to get $1000 changed at Travelex in UK to take over with me so I have some cash to start with.

But what about the rest? Is there an international money transfer website that anyone can recommend? I am going to open a Westpac account as soon as I get to Oz, so I'd be transferring it to there. HBOS offer an international money transfer for a one off £9.95 - has anyone used this?

Cheers

Hi Smudger82,

I can't help you with Westpac since we don't bank with them.

For small amounts we used our bank in the UK but for larger amounts we used Currencies 4 less (which became BaydonHill Plc).

However I registered with several companies such as HIFX and others and I would ring and see which one would give me the best quote (and of course tell them I was calling their competitors ). This usually meant that fees were waived and that we received a better exchange rate.

Regards,
Karen

I use xetrade.com to transfer money from my US bank to my AU bank. I spoke with customer service and they do offer there services to people in UK too. I have my US bank account and AU bank registered and can easily shift funds between the 2.

You don't have to wait until you move to open an account there. I have a CommBank account that I opened about 6 months ago, and I wont be moving until next year. Slowly shifting my funds across while the Xchange rate is good

Hi,

We opened up a Westpac account before we arrived, we could deposit into the account but not withdraw. Then all we needed to do was action the account once we were here.

We've used HiFx and Ozforex, can't remember which one but one had a limit where they won't transfer monies of less than £5K. Check out what their fees are against the HBOS fee you were quoted.
