Default New to the board- Big Hello to everyone:)

Hi to all,

I have noticed that you all seem like a very informative bunch, So I wanted get in touch, I just have a few queries!

Ok so I am from Ireland and Its looking like I maybe getting sponsored by a company. I have to get the 457 visa sorted out whilst this happens, Because I am in the fortunate situation of having a company to sponsor me- Does this speed up the process of getting the 457 visa???

If I decide I would like to move to another job-How restricted am I to move, I was told by the company I would have to pay them back a fee if I moved to another job. How much would this amount to?

The other aspect that was a bit of a concern, Is that some people are telling me that the tax is very high in Oz, so how much of a wage cut would this be every month, considering I will be on a fairly average income?

Is it possible to work part-time in another job if I am pursuing other hobbies of interest?

Ok I have loads of other questions but money is the deciding factor so I wanna make sure I get these issues sorted out first-

Thanks for all your help in advance and I hope ur all hvin a good time down under

457 visas are usually by company sponsorship so I'm not sure I understand the question. Sponsorship is being processed quicker than other visas at present (according to changes in the rules back in January).

If you decide to leave I believe you have to find another job that is willing to sponsor you if you are still within the time limit on the visa (usually 2 years).
You need to check with the employer what the amount would be since I hadn't heard that one before (but I'm not an expert).

457 is a temporary visa so if you intend to stay you'll need to apply for a permanent visa.

There are tax calculators and property website links in the 'PLEASE READ .....' sticky post towards the top of the forum and a 'Cost of living' thread that will give you some idea of the costs of living here.

Have you checked out the visa website since that may answer your question?
Temporary Business (Long Stay) - Standard Business Sponsorship (Subclass 457)
Especially check out the visa conditions section under employee obligations....

Regards,
Karen

Thanks for getting back in touch,

Apologies I didn't explain this part very well- There's a couple of things that I have to get sorted as in medicals, police checks etc from Ireland... Do I have to wait for the employer to send all this information over in paper before I can go ahead and start getting it together.

I haven't been through the 457 process so hopefully another member will be along to answer that part, or you can do a search through the forum since this may have been answered before.....

Hi there,

A big welcome to the forum.

Re your police checks and medicals.....there's nothing stopping you doing them now. I'm guessing that once the employer has submitted the application you will be notified by DIAC to have them done. They will then be included in your part of the application process.

There are many members on here who have either gone through or are going through the 457 process, I'm sure someone will clarify for you.

Dolly

A>457 requires Company Sponsorship, but it is one of the fastest visa applications to process that let work here for upto 4 yrs.

If I decide I would like to move to another job-How restricted am I to move, I was told by the company I would have to pay them back a fee if I moved to another job. How much would this amount to?

A> Very, you are tied the company, if you wanted to move jobs you'd need to arrange a new 457. In terms of paying back in most cases it's the cost of the migration agent and the costs for the company. i.e. 4-5k AUD (agents cost $$$). I've also seen that this is usually for the first 1-2 yrs of employment. Not sure if you'd need to pay them back after that. Should be spelled out in the contract.

The other aspect that was a bit of a concern, Is that some people are telling me that the tax is very high in Oz, so how much of a wage cut would this be every month, considering I will be on a fairly average income?

A> High taxes compared to where? have a look at the tax calculators at Australian Taxation Office Homepage

I came from the USA and my effective tax bill is about 4% higher than my USA tax bill. End result about 24-28% in total tax.

Is it possible to work part-time in another job if I am pursuing other hobbies of interest?

A> No, you could do it 'off the books' I suppose but a 457 is for one employer and one job.

Ok I have loads of other questions but money is the deciding factor so I wanna make sure I get these issues sorted out first-

Thanks for all your help in advance and I hope ur all hvin a good time down under

My family and I are coming on a 457, and in regards to your question regarding medicals, this is what has transpired with us... Accepted job offer with company, they got nomination approved with Aus. govt. Once nomination is approved (few days to 2 weeks), then visa can be applied for. This can be done on-line. Visa case worker will contact you (in our case it was just a week later) with the okay to get medicals scheduled as well as letting you know if any paperwork is outstanding. If medicals and background check, etc. are all clear, visa will be approved 28 days prior to your scheduled start date at your new australian company. Once visa is approved you will get an e-mail from the immigration service within 24 hours saying you are now legally allowed to enter Australia.

Hope that helps. Good luck.
