Hi,

I recently purchased a fascinating book on the history of Australia called "Australia: A New History of the Great Southern Land", I really recommend this for anyone who wants and in depth look at the formation of Australia and its progression to today.

I wanted to know what other books people have read on Australia that they think are worth a read. This can be history books, guide books, anything interesting. In particular I'd like to know if there are any good books on Melbourne in particular, something that can give me more details about the various neighborhoods.

Also, does anyone know of any 'pet guides' to Australia that highlight pet friendly dining, lodging, parks etc. I know we have quite a few comprehensive guide books for dogs here in California. Haven't been able to find anything about Australia yet.
