Default Help Think of Making the Big Move

Hello All,

I have been thinking of applying to move to Oz for a while. I visited my Uncle in Brisbane in 04 and really loved the place. I am married and have a step daughter who is 9. My wife is up for the idea but I really worry about leaving my parents (my mother keeps trying to put my off). I know from looking at the immigration site that once approved I can apply for my parents to come out. As they are over 45 they cant apply for the skilled migrants visa like me. Does anyone know how long I would have to be in OZ for them to apply for this?

Also I hope you dont mind me asking some other questions. I am a qualified information security consultant, Ive looked at the jobs boards but most jobs seem to be in Sydney or Melbourne. I really would like to be in Brisbane is there much chance of this?

Another question is about housing, what sort of money would I be looking at for a 3 bedroomed house in a decent area? Im trying to draw comparisions to the UK.

And finally whats the score with mortgages. My parents raised the point that if they sold here and moved that they may not be able get a mortgage. How does the system work?

Anyway apologies for so many questions I am doing allsorts of digging on the web too but any info will help. Thanks everyone!!

Hi there.

We are just in the process of applying for visas, so had lots of questions that needed answering.

As far as jobs go, I looked at the Australian Yellow Pages for the companies that operate in that area and then e-mailed them to ask if there was much call for people with my husbands experience. One of them even offered him a job subject to interview! It cant hurt and it gives you a good idea of the areas to aim for.

Again with housing, I just trawled through Aussie real estate and used Google Earth to get an idea of the area, obviously you cant tell what the people are like but it gives you a clue as to where things are, i.e. schools, beaches etc.

Not sure about your other questions but no doubt somebody else here will offer advice.

Good luck and hope this helps a little.

hi Ya,

what type of visa are you going on,

as for sponsoring your parents you have to be living there for two years I think.

house prices are about £119,779 that was a 3 bed house in Abbey wood Brisbane here is the link to the web site Brisbane - Real estate - Homes for Sale - ourbrisbane.com
im not sure how the mortgages work in Australia some one else will hopefully be able to help with that.

good look with your fact finding mission
Niamh
