Hi,

I've been offered an I.T job in Brisbane, its £110K including super. Is this any good?

If you calculate to back to pounds its around 50K, but don't you have to take off this Super of 9%??

Seems so low to me, compare with what I get in London

Okay so it's a salary of A$110K which is the £50K.

The 9% super is from the employer for your pension.

Have you checked out the tax links in the sticky post starting 'PLEASE READ....' towards the top of the forum? It has a tax calculator.

There are also links for property rentals and job websites (maybe you check out equivalent jobs and their salary?).

There is a 'Cost of living' sticky post and someone may have added the costs for Brisbane.

Hopefully that will be able to give you a better assessment...
Karen

Hey surfbum, it may not be the ideal wage, compared to what you are used to in London, but that is the sacrifice some of us have had to compromise. Is there anywhere else in the world that you could meet your London salary anyway? Ok maybe the states, but you will probably have to work extra hours.

If Australia is YOUR paradise - then does the pay cut matter? I'm afraid this is the golden question we have all had to crossroad.

You can't compare it to London or UK at all, completely different payscales. How many years of experience and is a it a managerial or techy position?

If Techy < 10 yrs then it's OK. And for Brisbane it's decent. Even for Sydney it's OK.

Hi Surfbum 99

Like other had said, I think it's difficult if you compare the salary to your income in London.. directly.

Each area has their own expenses (food, transport, accomodation), not to mention tax payment, and if you move to australia... you mean even want to consider your cost to fly home... which London I supposed....

So last time during my move from Indonesia to Singapore for the money factor, what i did was comparing my saving amount instead my income.... I found it easier for me to decide whether the move is worth to take or not.....

Hey Surfbum... I would say, just take the job to get a little bit more involved in daily life and it always looks good on your resume...after a while you can always look for something else ;-)

I'm still looking for some great contacts (like recruitment agents and stuff) If you know some, just let me know. I'm coming to Brisbane during June to apply for jobs so all help is welcome ;-) And if you're still unemployed we could always catch a beer over there :-)

Take care and good luck with the job hunting ;-)

normally it is the first job which is difficult to get.. once u manage that, theres no looking back..
From what I have seen from my search on the net, average salary for first jobs (IT) is 70k A$, and 110k A$ isnt bad.

wish u luck

110k is an exceptional salary which very rare people get in this market scenario. However, it depends on your level also for mid-level like 5-6 yrs of IT experience, it is quite sufficient.
