Need advice on schools in Sydney

We are moving to Sydney from the U.S. with a son in 1st grade. Do you have any advice regarding primary schools in Sydney? Can an American go to the AUstralian public schools? Do we have a choice which one we go to? Is the International American School good? It looks so small. Are there other International schools in Sydney?
