Hi Squeaky,

Congratulations!

I'm in South Australia too but I'm in SE South Australia, about 400 kms from Adelaide.

Have you checked out the sticky post 'The list of things to do before you emigrate' since that may have what you're looking for and also have a search through the forum since some of the answers may already be there.

My pensions were consolidated in the UK and then transferred over to Oz - they have to go into an approved superannuation fund and if you don't do it within 6 months of arriving here then you have to pay extra tax.

We sold our home but we have kept other property in the UK.

We bought our new home here before we moved over since we didn't have jobs and we're self employed so probably wouldn't have got a mortgage.

Regards,
Karen

No worries.

We're in Mount Gambier since we didn't want to live in a big city and although Mt G is called a city by UK standards it's a county town with 25,000 people.

We had stopped in it a few times on Great Ocean Road trips between Adelaide and Melbourne and decided this was the place for us. Best move we've ever made and we don't have any water problems down here either since we have a (dormant) volcanic lake that supplies the city with water.

House prices are much cheaper here than Adelaide too - or at least they were when we were looking

Regards,
Karen
