Default ACS Skills Assessment

Hi i have a slight problem with my skills assessment application. In a previous job although i worked for I.T. department i did this unofficially (factory politics!) Little did i know at the time i would require a letter for an OZ visa a few years later claiming this experience. I have a personal letter from my then manager stating my I.T. duties but HR will not provide me with any official letter saying that i was part of the I.T. department. This is so frustrating. Can anyone give me advice on what to do? HR will only provide dates of employment etc and are really only keen on giving minimal information. They are being really unhelpful. Can anyone advise me on how ACS will look at this?

Hi there,

As long as you can get someone of a higher position than you were and with whom you worked with to state that you were in that department for 'x' amount of months (and a brief description of what you did, and a bit of a character reference too) you'll be OK.

But the key thing here is to get the statement written on official company letterhead and have it signed and dated. If it's not on letterhead, it won't be accepted.

So, if your letter from your manager and it's on letterhead paper, you're good to go.

I'm not sure if the rules have changed, as we did this over 3 years ago.....I'm sure there will be someone else who can confirm.

Dolly

u can give a statutory declaration stating the same that the said department is not accommodating your request and you have attached the letter by then manager. Incase u r still in touch with the manager, you can always take personal reference letter form him and his contact details so that if at all they want to contact them, they can.

Hi There,

I have cleared ACS assessment in Jan-2008. In my case, most of letters are signed by General Manager or Plant Manager. It is normal in small scale or mid scale industries that HR is not the final authority and GM or PM sign the letters of reference/experience.

In your case, lets combine suggestion/opinion of Dolly and Anj; Get a reference letter from IT manager on company letter head with his contact detail. (like ... email address, land line phone, mobile phone etc.).

Get it done, go ahead and apply for assessment.

All the very Best.
