Default Chances of actually getting a permanent VISA

Hello,
I did the usual tests and got 125 of the 120 needed points to get a permanent VISA.
Does that indeed guarantee that I would get one or might it still be a wasted application fee (which at >AUD 2000 is hefty).
While not having a current job offer I am sure I'll find something instantly after getting a VISA (SAP Consultant - high demand).
Thanks for thinking
Andi

Hi Andi,

Welcome to the forum.

If you don't have a degree or similar required qualification you will have to do a skills test. If you don't have a degree and don't pass the skills test, you won't be eligible to apply for a visa.

If you do need to do a skills test, this is the website you'll need to get all the info:
Australian Computer Society - Skills Assessment

Have you checked on the SOL (Skilled Occupation List) to see what qualifications are required for your job? SOL - SOL - Skilled Occupations List - Australian Migration Requirements

Hello Dolly,
thank you for your reply, my skillset is on the "Migration occupations in Demand for Australia (MODL)" list.
I do not have a university degree but 11 years experience in that field and plenty of certified Trainings and Certifications in it.

When you say they do a skills test - is that someone with actual industry experience doing something like a Technical Interview?

Thanks,
Andi

P.S. Sorry, I wanted to paste links into the thread to the lists mentioned above but the forum doesnt allow that until I have 4 posts

Hi Andi,

Since you are in IT you'll be assessed by the Australian Computer Society - the link to their website is in the 'PLEASE READ....' sticky post towards the top of the forum.

If you don't have a degree you may have to do the Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL).

There is also a link in the 'PLEASE READ....' post to the new critical skills list - it'll be worth checking if you are on there.

Regards,
Karen

Hi appeland:

Passing the points requirements means there shouldn't be any major hurdle for you to get the Visa, it's not a guarantee you get one.

The main test to pass will be the assessment of your work experience by the ACS. if that is in order and your health and police checks are clean then in most cases you would get a Visa. If you have doubt about passing the assessment, police checks, or health check then get in touch with a Migration agent and discuss the details with him/her.

Good luck

Hi Andi,

Well, the RPL will keep you busy for a while...from recollection you'll have to do project reports/CBOK statements/employer statements/an affadavit plus numerous forms. Oh and when you get certified copies done, make sure to get 2 copies as one will be required for your main application.

Happy writing!

Dolly
