Help with income when having a baby in Oz

Hi all,

I don't know if this is something that has been covered or not, but I wondered if anyone can help me out. I am 7 months pregnant on a 457 visa (4 year) I am sponsored by my husbands visa, who will continue to work, i will take a year off to have the baby.

I am wondering if we will get any help financially, for the baby - Like in the UK you get income support (I can't even remember what I would if anything we'd get back in the UK, we've been here 2 years now and it seems like we've always been here!) but I know (well assume) that the Oz government won't give us anything because we are not perm residents and I didn't know if we are entitled to anything from either the UK or Oz governments. The LAFHA helps, but I wondered if that is all that we are entitled to. Does anyone know, or been in this situation themselves?

Have you checked out the Medicare website? Medicare Australia

I'm not sure on this one but I know that there are some reciprocal agreements with the UK - not sure if they would cover you if you're from the UK.

Even as permanent residents we have private health insurance that covers that sort of thing...

To be honest, I cant image you would, if you are not permanent residents.

If you were, you should be entitled to Centerlink Family payments ( plus the baby bonus).

Try looking on the Centerlink site.
