Default Dependent 457 restrictions?

Hi folks,

I have a question pertaining to the 457 dependent (spouse) visa, which I hold. Can I travel to Australia without my husband (neither accompanying me nor being in Australia already)? I am visualizing scenarios when my husband might be traveling overseas and I have to enter Australia. Basically, what are the restrictions for a dependent 457?

In case this is difficult to answer for the members here, any pointers to a lawyer/consulting firm (in India) would greatly help too.

Thanks much,
Nirja

Hi Nirja ,

Welcome to the forum.

I moved your questions to it's own thread so you don't hijack some one else's thread - otherwise the answers get all mixed up.

Regards,
Karen

You can pose this question to the Immigration dept as well (e-mail or call them).

Here's what I think about the questions:
1. Travel independently - YES, this is AFTER your spouse has come to AU
2. Travel to AU before your spouse comes here, NO, not on the 457 as you are dependent on his Visa, he needs to come first. If you have intention to come before see if coming on a visitor Visa invalidates the 457 (you can normally hold one visa to AU at any time).
