Default Anyone know anything about parents Visas?

Hi Guys

I'm living in NSW at the moment and have had my mum visiting for 6 weeks (due to go back on Sunday ) and so its gotten me to thinking about the possibility of her coming over here for good.

If anyone has any experience of applying for the contributory parent visa please I'd love to hear about it.

Thanks very much

Rach xxxx

Hi
At last found someone that may be able to help me. I have the very same question. Before I move to oz on a skilled working visa, I want to find out how/if it is possible for my parents to join us. They are retired, I have been told of an assurance I could put up, however, I know little else. Did your Mum get to come over to you?

Welcome Chazza,

You've resurrected an old post.

There is info on the visa websites (see the "PLEASE READ....") post. The last I heard these had been suspended, possibly due to the government change over.

There are several types of parent visas - temporary, permanent with support etc. The ones where the parent(s) contribute seem to be processed faster than the other kind.

Regards,
Karen

Hi
Thank you for taking time out to reply, I have done a lot of reading and 'the the parent visa. However their is a restriction on how many are issued. Mum/Dad may be able to get out on the basis they have good finanacial asests ie Investment retirment visa(replaced the retirement visa) but, again I not know if their is a restriction on issue. How long would it take as the years are ticking. It would be terrible if we spent £2000-£4000 on aplying for visas to be told we can go(on a working visa) but parents cannot. I still wait the Australian Commision to call me back, not sure how realistic that is .

Have you tried getting some free info from emigration agents?

If you are based in the UK there are loads of them there and there are the emigration expos too.

Will you stay where you are if your parents can't come out too?

Most expats settle in first and then get their parents out on a parent visa since you have to be seen to be settled in Oz before your parents can come out on that visa.

Regards,
Karen
