Question sell or rent my property in Uk, then move to Aus???

Hi All

I would like to pick your brains please???? My partner is an Electrician & we are waiting to here if he has a job sponsorship in Aus. It is still very early days, but we own our house outright in Essex, from all your past experiences etc, do you think we should sell our property, or rent it for a while or so???
Any advice etc would be gratefully recieved

i would rent it out for 2 years or so, and see if the situation is stable in Australia in terms off Job security. This way if God forbid your partner loses his/her job, you have a home to go back to, rather being on the streets, you can also make some money this way to fund your Australia migration, keep in mind costs r v high in australia and any financial supplement is beneficial.

After 2 years + , if you like it in Australia and see yourself well settled, you can sell it off and maybe buy a property in Australia (although its extremely expensive you might end up buying a smaller house)

ofcourse is ur decision in the end, but these r my thoughts.

Hi tiddywiddy,

in my opinion you should wait until you have the visa before you quit your job, sell property or book any flights. My partner had two employment offers on a 457 work visa in the pipeline. The first company re-considered after a couple of weeks and told us that due to the economy prospects they would rather not sponsor at the current time. Of course, if we managed to secure another visa, they implied that they would gladly hire him as soon as we are physically in Australia . The second company agreed to sponsor but it took ages to prepare the sponsorship application so we decided to apply for a permanent visa instead.

Moreover, processing times range widely and it's hard to tell when - and if - your visa would be granted.

I also agree with JBY that once you are ready to move, it would probably best to rent out the house until you are settled and hopefully content in Oz.

Just my two cents,
Monika

Hi Tiddywiddy,

Leaving the house rented in the UK does give you some security should you want to (or have to ) return to the UK.
Other things to consider....
Do you have enough money to move to Oz without selling the house?
How much will you and your partner be earning here and will that be enough to live on?

Cheers,
Karen
