Default Going downunder..

Hello all, I'm new to this site and it looks like a nice place full of information.

I've been home from Australia now nearly 2 years after going there on a working holiday visa as part of my round the world trip. I now want to go back to Aus to work with my girlfriend and we're contemplating doing it next November.

However as we've already used up our WHV and didnt complete any seasonal work the process seems a bit more tedious this time and it looks as though a Skill Migration Visa would be our best bet ? I wouldn't be that confident of passing the migration test whilst I am University educated, I'm had a recent career change from IT to marketing thus I don't have that much experience in my field.

Apologies if any question I ask is in the sticky threads but is the best bet to call a registered agent to discuss this and would they be able to give you an idea if you should pass the test or not ?

Also how long does it take to get the visa ?

I guess my other option is to fly out there on a holiday visa and hope to get sponsored by a company within the 3 months, i'd be less willing to do that though.

Any advice is helpful, i'm 25 and from Ireland btw.

Thanks in advance!

Ryan

Hi there Ryan,

Welcome to the forum.

Firstly, if you haven't already, look at the sticky at the top of the forum page "thinking of migrating?". You will be able to ascertain if you have the skills and points necessary to get a skilled independent visa. If you then look at the "please read...." sticky it has a link to DIAC which will give you all the visas available so you could see which one is right for you. You can get sponsorship from either a company or a State....a company sponsorship is far harder to get (depending on your job).

It all depends on which visa you have applied for but generally the skills assessment can take upto 8 weeks to be assessed and the main visa can take upwards of 10 months.

Secondly, I always recommend seeking professional help right at the start from a migration agent. We have agents to who post on here and can be contacted by their signatures (Alan Collett, pc, SOMV, Liana Allen). First consultations are usually free, without obligation. You can also google for other agents, but make sure they are MARA/MIA registered.

Once you've got all that sorted, the questions will begin........

Good luck,
Dolly
