Default State School Intake dates & entry age

Can someone please advise if enrollments for new primary students to State schools are granted only during the start of the school year or do they allow enrollments throughout the year?

Also please advise in order to enter year 1 should the child be 6 years and 6 months or will they grant a 6 years child entry into year1?

We have been searching school websites and internet without any clarity on these points and would greatly appreciate your help and guidance?

We are moving to Perth with 2 primary going kids.

Kids only normally need to be 5 1/2 to start Year 1, turning 6 by the 30th June. Public schools accept enrolments all year. Don't worry, your kids will settle in just fine. Teachers are used to dealing with kids from a wide range of different abilities and backgrounds.

Thanks Dunsford5678. That's hugely relieving.

My daughter will turn 7 this week and she just entered year 2 in a british curriculum International school in KL. If we were to move in July/August 2013, she would have completed year 2 here (School year starts in Sept and ends the following year july here) and her having turned 7 years and 11 months, am I right in interpreting that my daughter would qualify to enroll into year 3 in OZ in Aug 2013?

In Aug 2013 she would be finishing off year 2 (again) in Australia due to the school year being different and entering year 3 in Jan/Feb when the new school year starts.

The cut off for age is 30 April! My son who was twelve when we arrived from the uk and had already completed 6 months at Grammar School was forced to complete yr6 primary again as his birthday was in may, after the cut off!
They do allow some leeway though as my daughter is May 1st and she was allowed to jump a year, so all cases are treated individually. But more than a week outside the cut off date you will struggle to get them elevated to the next year!

No, I think she need to be in year 2 for couple of months, then will go to years 3 in Jan/Feb 2014.
