Default Registering with Medicare

I will be arriving to Perth end of this month. I have arranged for a one month initial accommodation via airbnb. I want to register directly with Medicare but I have a few questions:

1- It is mentioned that I need a lease agreement and gas/electricity registration. Since I will be staying in a shared accommodation first, this means I cant register until I have rented my own house?

2- My family (wife and son) will be joining me after a month or so. Can I register first and then when they come they will register? Or do we need to register as a family so I will have to wait until they arrive?

Thanks

You should be able to register without the need for proof of address. I was asked for my passport, copy of my visa and the date of my first entry only.

They do ask for your address on your application form but that is used to send your permanent card to you. Once you have a permanent address, you can update your correspondence and home address online, by phone or simply pop down to your nearest Medicare office.

I don't have a family here but I would imagine that in the same way that babies can be added to their parents' medicare account, then you would be able to add your family as well. When you go down to the Medicare office to register, just ask them what the process would be.

The woman in Parramatta wouldn't register us without proof of address, we tried 3 times each woman said no!
But easy sorted. We got the bank to print us a statement with the temp address we were staying at on. They accepted that.

If its not initial entry, then probably you will be required more documents to resister for medicare. Permanent address is mandatory by that time.

No it is not, you can register with a temp address. You simply need proof that you are living at that address. That is exactly what we did, using bank statement of evidence.

Off course you resister with temporary address, but if its not initial entry then you need to show you are permanently residing in Australia in Present address.
I doubt, only bank statement will do the work, u probably need statutory declaration for this.

Your doubt is not fact. I walked into medicare with a bank statement showing my temp address and was issued medicare cards for myself, my son and husband. This was one of a couple of documents advised by the medicare office, the other being a centrelink letter addressed to you at your temp address.

well, u had a different experience n I had somewhat bit more different, in last Aug my wife went to medicare in brissy city got straight way registered her name with only passport on which PR175 was sufficient and just local bank a/c no., although it was also her second entry to Australia.

But when I went to same medicare center twice, I have been returned back by those working ladies by saying, "since it was not your initial entry, we want more documents to resister you, you need to provide statutory declaration, passport with visa and any two documents for the list in the enrollment application form". Few days back I went with all documents but to different Medicare center in Starthpine, where the lady didn't asked any sort of document, only my passport and bank statement did the job for me.

So, its been advised to everyone especially who are coming for second time, be prepared with all the documents to avoid unnecessary trouble.
