Hi,

Once your EOI is submitted, what will determine your chances of being invited to apply?

My migration agent passed a comment that confused me, he mentioned that even though I have 65 points, it may not be enough to be selected for skilled independent, and I should consider state sponsorship.

Not quite sure what is meant by that, can anyone advise?

They select the people with the highest number of points and continue down the list until they have hit the cap for your particular profession. If your profession has a low cap (ceiling) - the numbers are published on the SkillSelect site - then you may not be selected even though you meet the minimum requirements.

If you were to apply for state sponsorship and be approved, you would automatically receive an invitation to apply.

In the last round of independent invitations (i.e. people without state sponsorship), you needed at least 75 points to get an invitation.

I saw the latest report on the types of people who were invited on this first round, and the lowest score was 75 while the highest was 85. Personally, before submitting my EOI, I would get the highest score possible. If you can get the State Sponsorship, do so if you are able to. Even take the IELTS over if you can get 8's on all modules for 20 extra points.
