Tickets/Baggage Allowance

Hi People

I got Subclass 176 granted and planning to move to Perth, WA next month. I am little curious about how much baggage does Thai Airways allows and in which form.

I tried booking tickets online and it says I have to visit the Airline office to pay for the tickets which I booked online and for the issuance of the tickets.

I have concern about the baggage policy. The ticket which I've booked online for me, my wife and my son it does not say anywhere that I am allowed to take 40 KGS of baggage it says 20 KG/Person .

How can I get this confirmed that how much baggage I can take and whether it should be 1 baggage of 40 KGS or 2 Baggages of 20 KGS each ?

Call up the airlines office and get a written confirmation regarding the baggage allowance..I had a bad experience so its best to get a written confirmation from the airlines office and take a printout ...
40kgs is allowed if you have a one-way ticket..

Most airlines have their standard baggage allowance and if you require additional baggage allowance or have an offer than entitles you to more than their standard allowance, you would need to speak to them either by phone or email and negotiate accordingly.

As stated by lifeisgood, it is wise to get any extra allowance confirmed in writing as that can help resolve any issues that you may have at the airport in case the information has not been entered into the system. There is nothing worse than one person confirming that they have increased your allowance, only to get to the airport and realising that the information has not been passed on and you are now facing a huge bill. At least if you get written confirmation, you can argue with them.

Do they offer an extra allowance for migrants? I've only heard of singapore doing that, good to know if they do.

The IOM (nonprofit organization) gives special offers for migrants. They offer cheaper flights and more baggage allowance if you hold a new visa and you are migrating. Just FYI for those that are looking at a different option with getting more baggage allowance.

The IOM prices are not that cheap and come to about the same as booking your own flight and paying the airline per kilo for extra baggage. We had a quote from them and managed to get a cheaper flight from singapore with the 40k allowance for having one way tickets and an unvalidated PR visa. I've seen so many other people say the same but it is always worth getting a quote from them because you never know otherwise.

We had a few quotes and you're right IOM is not necessarily the cheapest. Depends on the date you go and which route you are traveling, but worth to give a try, especially if you are not going in a hurry.
