where to live if you work in north shore?

Hi, am moving to sydney in 10 days and looking for somewhere to rent- a bit lively (but not too full on as am over 30!), pretty, near the water. Currently live in Brighton and love it's hippy,but yummy mummy vibe so looking for something similar. no more than 25 mins from north sydney- pacific highway. Would really really appreciate some advice as rental agents don't seem that interested. Budget is c. 650-750 week for 2 bed if possible.

ALSO on a whole different matter - does anyone belong to 'getalife'? am keen to meet people asap and immerse myself in all sydeny has to offer. What's it like?

I recommend looking in North Sydney itself, but other suburbs to consider:
Cammeray, Northbridge, Milsons Point. I think the budget is fine for a 2 bedder.

The best website I've found is: Real Estate, Property, Land and Homes for Sale, lease and rent - realestate.com.au and searching by map.

For beach I would also consider Manly. Please note that you should look at the suburbs that are on the train line to North Sydney.

I have lived on the North Shore (Cremorne, Mosman, Cremorne Point, and Neutral Bay). All are suitable areas. If you can get a spot at Balmoral Beach, that would be ideal. Just down off the water from Mosman.

The best rental agent there is Elders and the person who will put you in the right direction is Lynece Finkelston. All of the agents are on thge pacific highway or just off the highway opposite the Oaks Hotel.

The other option you might have is to go east. Try Bondi Beach, Coogee, Tamarama and Bronte. I used to live in Brighton when I was in the UK but the commute to London each day almost killed me.

If I had my choice, heading into summer in Sydney, I'd be going for a place at Balmoral Beach. That way you can walk to Bathers Pavillion and Watermark for breakfast and have a swim afterwards looking out to the heads on Sydney Harbour. Magic.
