If you have a Google Voice account, that would be the best option in terms of price since calls to the US would be free. If you have an iPhone, you can download the Talkatone app which would let you make these calls over wifi or 3G.

Facetime - iphone
Skype - cell/pc to cell/pc
viber

these are only when both parties have a smartphone or pc with internet. Are you trying to make a call to landline number in the US?

I wanna make calls to landline as well as mobile(not too many our relatives/friends dont have smart phones) ...
i have previously used Indiald in usa and the service was fantastic..the problem here in Austr is that calls to the access numbers will be charged(unlike in USA where i had an unlimited plan)...I cannot afford more than AUS$29/mnth ....
anybody out there using Indiald in Australia ?

If you have a smartphone and Google Voice you can call US mobiles and landlines for free.

Yes it is free. You need a Gmail account. Go to voice.google.com and sign up for a Google Voice number. It will be a US based number and you'll be able to pick the area code. Once you have the number, go to the Android market and download an app called Talkatone. Once that's set up you will be able to make calls for free to US based numbers and they will be able to call you via your Google Voice number. And it's all free!
