Post The new SkillSelect impact on old applications

Hi All,

Just had a question on the new SkillSelect system applicable post July 2012.

This apparently will allow the state and employer to select your application (EOI) to file a visa. So basically the applicant stands a chance to get a ready Job offer even before getting the visa, if any employer nominates his/her file. Is this correct ?

If yes, then can candidates who have applied before July 2012 be able to avail such benefits ?

I read somewhere that you can file for an EOI even if you have already applied for PR under the old rules.

Please can someone thrown light on this ?

Best Regards!

But there is no fees for EOI and you can file an EOI under various categories at the same time.

U r right - coz EOI is not application for VISA, its only expression of interest.

Those who already applied 175/176 paid 2960, lets assume they again succeed EOI and receive Invitation to Apply for 189/190/489 etc.. then they need to pay again AUD 2960

And this part is a bit tricky that talks about Employer sponsorship ENS or RSMS, Note for these (ENS & RSMS) EOI is not required at all (ie not mandetory like GSM PG3 & 4 in new system189/190/489) and u can contact employers directly even today - if they r willing to sponsor u.

EOI facilitates employers to connect prospective migrants (PG3 & 4 ie. 189/190/489) - whom they might want to offer/nominate, like they do it today for ENS & RSMS.

SkillSelect will be accessed by employers from the PoV of sponsoring ENS and RSMS applicants, not for recruitment.

It is neither DIAC's job nor responsibility to help you find a job. DIAC's job is to process visas, and SkillSelect will be a system built with that in mind.

Thanks guys.

I think SkillSelect is a good way to make recruiters validate the current talent pool.
With regards to the employment, I suppose it will just be an intent from the employer and sponsorship/nomination option (not exactly an offer of employment)

I have anyways submitted my application for 175 on 11th June. Waiting for CO ..
My question was 'Can SkillSelect give you more visibility into the job market? If yes, does this apply for candidates who already have a PR or have already filed their applications?'

If u already applied 175, u must have seen sth similar already as in Skill Matching Database

Thanks hahamed.

I did not know about this. Can we register in the SMD even before the PR is granted ? Let me know so that I can create a profile there and update my CV if required.

Also, I was thinking of getting an ACS membership which was offered post my ACS skills assessment. Details here : ACS

But there is an annual fee of AUD 230 per year for ACS membership so I thought I will go for it post my PR grant.

If i remember correctly, SMD option is asked when u apply GSM VISA online, if u said NO - then your details not included/made available to employers.

I received confirmation email from SMD as soon as I applied GSM thru DIAC.

I did not receive any option for SMD while filing online for GSM - 175. Its not mentioned in the email confirmation that I received as well.

Can I go ahead and request for an ID ? I am assuming this is still applicable and you can apply even before PR is granted.

Thanks!
