Default In confusion : in need of suggestion

Hi all,

Being a new member here in expatForum, I'm not sure If I've come to right place with regard to my confusion.

I'm from Nepal seeking to apply for an Australian PR visa under GSM. I've not started even the 1st process yet; Skill Assessment. The hindrance I'm expecting is in Skill Assessment itself. I fear of having negative assessment because of non-relevancy fo my education and occupation. My education qualification [Bachelor in Business Studies] is not relevant to my occupation [Web Designer/Graphic Designer]. DIAC clearly says that those need to be relevant. However, I could find information in some of skill assessment bodies' websites. Those suggest work experience can compensate the lack of relevancy. I've 6+ yrs of experience in my occupation. Meanwhile, I'm in real dilemma whether I should go for assessment or not. Is there a any instance of positive assessment despite of non-relevancy thanks to work experience?

I expect suggestion/views from the ones who had gone through the same condition.

Additionally, SOL schedule 1 has recently been published few days back which is going to take effect from 1 July 2012. Should I wait for schedule 2 to be published soon? When is it going to be published?

Is it true that occupations under SOL 1 is given high value than that of SOL 2?

Sorry for such a lengthy queries.

I'll be looking forward to suggestions/views from experienced buddies.

Thanks in advance.

Yes. If your educational qualification is not in match with your experience and in case if you are applying to ACS for skill assessment, you can take the RPL route.

Please visit acs website for further information

Trajan

Hi Ishwor,
If your degree is a non-ICT one then you would have to undergo RPL route. Please search this thread for RPL as there are so many threads and posts on the same.

If your skill is assessed to be one from SOL1 then you can apply for either 175 or 176 but if your Skill code is on SOL2 then you can only apply for a State Sponsored 176. Apart from that there is no difference in the two visa types.

I think the visa categories are now changing to 189 & 190. I am not sure how State Sponsorship will work post 1st July. But you can get started with the preparation of docs for your assessment in the mean time. Choose your Skill Code to be assessed against wisely.

Good Luck!!

Thanks trajan and coolsnake for such a prompt response.

As per previous SOL schedule 2 (as of till now; until 2012 list), my occupation needs to be assessed by VETASSESS.

What exactly RPL is? Do I necessarily go through RPL even if my skill is to be assessed by VETASSESS?

And, is there any rough idea when schedule 2 will be made public?

Thanks again.

What's your skill code please? As far I know only ACS assesses ICT experience.

RPL is Recognition of Prior Learning.

Hi coolsnake,

my skill code is : [as per previous SOL schedule 2]

Graphic Designer 232411

Web Designer 232414

========================
My occupation falls under either of above. And as per categorized by IMMI, the assessing authority is VETASSESS.

Thanks.

I am not very sure about VETASSESS. Have a read on their website and see if they have their own version of RPL. Or someone who has undergone that route on this forum would be able to shed some light on it for you.

Also, as your skill code is on SOL2 its advisable to wait for the new SOL to be released before you take your next step as SOL2 can always change.

Sorry, couldn't be of much help here.

Good luck!!

I didnt know Graphic designer can apply.
Would that profession also count as a partner qualification under the point scheme?
