Default Questions about job and visa

Hi everyone,

First and foremost I want to apologize for all these naive questions. I have read all the information but getting even blurred after. So I just want to ask some question to clarify:

1/ How is my qualification can be considered in visa assessment?

I have a bachelor degree in Science major Chemistry in National Uni of Singapore, currently working as an lab instrument engineer. However, I want to pursuit a career in Finance sector, so I have obtain CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst) certificate and have passed level 1. Currently I am sitting for CFA level 2 and Financial Risk Management exam as well.

2/ I haven't got a job in Oz yet, so most likely I need to apply for 175 visa. I read and calculate roughly the point test I currently have now is 110-115.

However I am really blur about the conditions of Nominated skilled occupation. This occupation is the one I am working as or the one I intend to work in Oz? And how do I justify the job since I haven't got one.

Thank you very much, I hope to receive your reply soon.

You're saying that you want a job in the finance sector - do you have any experience in this yet? Most visas are looking for experience as well as qualifications and want the applicant to have been working in the occupation that they are applying in for a certain period of time.

For a visa you have to apply in the skill set that you have qualifications and experience in now. So I would have thought that you would be applying as a lab engineer. However if you get in on a skilled independent visa then you can do whatever you like when you get here. If you go for a state or employer sponsored visa then you have to stay in the profession that you applied in for a certain number of years.

We have some migration agents on the forum and I think it would be good to check with them since then you'd get expert advice, whereas the rest of us can only talk about our experiences (and what we've learnt from other members). The agents are Alan Collett, SOMV and Liana Allen. They will be able to tell you your best options.

Regards,
Karen
